Apple iOS App Review: Dash Race

Dash Race is the electronic version of a popular paper game that can be played anywhere, everywhere, at anytime. All you need is a sheet of squared paper and colored pencils. However, now all you need is an iOS device! As tradition with any of my Apple iOS App review’s, I break the review into different categories. This review is divided into 5 different categories, consisting of 1) Sounds 2) Graphics 3) Tracks 4) Controls and 5) Gameplay. Let’s get started with the review!

The music and sounds of the game are overall wonderful. They are very upbeat, lively, and make you feel welcomed to play the game. Some of the sounds, such as the sound of one crashing into a wall, does sound a little corny. Yet, it does seem to get the job done. If the sounds, or music is not for you, you can easily mute all sounds by going into the App’s settings. This is a great feature that I am glad they included into the App.

Overall, this category receives a 4/5 rating.

The graphics of this game are very minimalistic, yet it is very fitting for the game. This App is supposed to replace a game once played on paper, so to make it graphically intense would take away from the point of the game. The minimalistic graphics made me focus more on the goal of the game, rather than worrying about my eyes getting strained due to bright colors, etc.

Overall, this category receives a 4.5/5 rating.

Dash race comes preloaded with 9 tracks for your gaming enjoyment. All 9 tracks will keep you occupied, and busy for hours. I enjoyed playing every singly one of them. If 9 tracks don’t
tickle your fancy, you can purchase 4 additional map-packs that just might! The amount of choices in this game leads to less time of being bored. Variety is key in order to make a game great.

Overall, this category receives a perfect 5/5 rating.

The controls of this game are very easy to get acclimated with. In order to move, you hold your finger down until it allows you to move the line to a red dot. Then, you drag the line to that dot, and double click. It is fairly straightforward, yet I have made many mistakes while playing the game. It is somewhat problematic for people with big hands. It can be difficult to see where exactly you are placing the line.

Overall, this category receives a 4/5 rating

This game is challenging, frustrating, yet highly immersive. I found myself playing this game over, and over again. This game is fun for people of all ages. You will not be disappointed.

Overall, this category received a 5/5 rating

Overall Rating:

After tallying up all of the ratings, this game receives an overall rating of: 4.5/5

    Hi Jared,
thanks for this great review of my game Dash Race! One comment maybe on the controls: you don’t have to do the target determination on the small target area. This is especially discouraged by an initial note once you might do this the first time. Rather do it anywhere on the screen far off the target area, so it is easy to see the next piece of your track while you choose one of the next possible positions. And then it’s no issue even if you have really big fingers 😉
