Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart iOS App Review

Dive into an epic journey as a museum owner in pursuit of an undead pirate who has kidnapped your daughter, taking her away in his ghost galleon. You quickly realize that the undead pirate is entangled in a tragic, centuries-old love story, and wants to resurrect his mistress with the youth’s life force. With danger lurking in every corner, you must act quickly to save the young girl’s life before it is too late. Travel through haunting seas, ruined fortresses, and bone-covered catacombs as you uncover secrets from the past!

Enough with the description of the App, let’s get started with the review. My reviews are broken out into 4 categories: Gameplay, Graphics, Controls and Sounds. Let’s get this nightmare party started (see what I did there?)

This game can be best described as a point & click adventure game. Unlike many other point & click games, this one actually has a storyline and a purpose. To begin, you can either choose Regular Mode or Expert Mode. The Regular Mode is much more forgiving than the Expert Mode when you are in hidden object scenes. Of course, I chose to play in Regular Mode, because I am no fun (womp. womp, waaaaah).

The plot is great and the game is highly addicting. The little details in this game are what I really appreciate the most. For instance, when you are in the curator’s office and you tap the radio, it actually begins to play. You can even tune the radio to different stations. Also, when you enter locked doors, you either use your keycard (which you have to swipe) or use a key (which you turn in the keyhole) before clicking on the handle to unlock the door. Fantastic attention to detail.

As you can tell, I thoroughly enjoyed (and continue) to enjoy this gameplay. 5/5

The graphics in this game are unlike anything I’ve experienced thus far. Each room, every artifact, and even pieces of paper have such great detail. It makes for an exciting playing experience. There really isn’t anything else, I can say about the graphics except, WOW.

Without a doubt, this section earns a well deserved 5/5

Since this is a point & click game, there really are no difficult directional pads or motion sequences within the game. All you have to do is click on an object or area on the screen and you go exploring. It really is that simple. The controls are easy, intuitive, and fluid. In addition, there is an exceptional tutorial in the beginning of the game to get you acclimated with the controls, and what you are expected to do within the game.

Simplicity is my best friend when it comes to controls within Apps. Another well deserved score of 5/5

There certainly was no aspect of this game that the developers left out. The sounds and music within this game are amazing. From the spooky, erie background music, to the rain and the lightning crackle, the sounds add to the plot of the story. The sounds do not interfere with the gameplay, they enhance it tremendously.

Phenomenol. 5/5

This game has quickly become one of my favorite games that I downloaded from the App Store. From the simplistic controls, to the wow-factor graphics, this game does not and will not disappoint.

Final Score: 5/5
