Star Wars: BattleFront III in Development?

Its been 6 long years since the last Star Wars BattleFront game graced our screens and took over our lives.  There have been few games with the ability to make you choose gaming over sleeping, eating and generally keeping up the daily tasks of keeping yourself alive.  However, BattleFront was one of those few games.  Fighting on the front line as Vader or Yoda themselves or blasting your way through the enemy’s resistance in a glorious outer space battle.

The long-awaited sequel has (like most games of recent) been a little start, stop.  The last I heard the development was halted not even halfway though, some teaser art could be found online of our long-lost Han Solo but this only helped the tears flow at the thought of never seeing another BattleField.  It now looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel fellow gamers and lovers of the ‘Wars’, it has fallen onto the news desk of Rebel Gaming that the originally rumoured developer Spark Unlimited may in fact be the one to bring back our beloved BattleFront.  To begin with the rumour sprung to life with the developer neither confirming or denying their involvement with this epic franchise.  That and the fact that their site boasted that they were in production on a unannounced high-profile, popular game sequel for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.  The clued up gamers (such as those at Rebel Gaming) needed to simply put two and two together.

Well, now we have a little more evidence to back up these online rumours.  As usual this proof comes in the form of the developer

recruiting for a senior combat designer for a 3rd person action/adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise currently greenlit for full production developement for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC markets.

If your still convinced then please read on you non believers (I find your lack of faith disturbing); You could of course argue that this is still not 100% concrete proof as this may be any number of other science fiction sequels, the immediate argument to that is simply there are not that many sci-fi franchise sequels out there that are not already tied into a developer.  But that’s pretty slim proof at best, so here’s something more solid.  Rebel Gaming has gone the extra mile for you guys, we have found John Lawrie’s (ex senior Software Engineer for Spark Unlimited) LinkedIn profile.  Which states under previous work for the developer ‘Unannounced third person sword fighting game (well-known IP, Xbox 360, PS3)’.  You mix swords with sci-Fi and what do you get? LIGHT SABERS!  We also checked on a few other linkedIn profiles and confirmed the game is a shooter aswell.

Now for the best part, according to the current senior software engineer (who posted on his LinkedIn profile) their current sequel is scheduled for release THIS YEAR!  OK that might mean Christmas but still its better than what I expected it to be!

What are your thoughts?  Are the rumours just that?

Check back here for more updates as they come.

May the force be with you all, always.
