Xbox Game Pass Review: Rocket League – Fun For All!

Rocket League was released on the Xbox One on February 17, 2016, and was developed and published by Psyonix. Rocket League is like taking a racing game and a soccer game and mixing it into one colorful fun experience. This addicting family-friendly game is rated E so anyone of all ages can play and enjoy this great but simple game but online interactions may vary. This game’s standard price is $19.99 but with Xbox Game Pass this game and many more are yours to play for just $9.99 per month. This game does have a microtransaction system though where you can buy cosmetics at an additional price but nothing that I would consider pay to win as I picked up the game relatively quick and was doing just fine in the game in no time.

The gameplay of Rocket League is very straightforward and simple, it will get you hooked in no time. You take your car with plenty to choose from even some from other games and movies, everything from Halo to Gears of War to  Fast and the Furious, and customize it then step into the action. Rocket League’s online play in my opinion is where it truly stands out. You can do anything from 1v1 to 4v4 with cross platforming available. It puts you in an arena with your car and teammates where you compete against the other team to try to use your car to push the ball into the opposing team’s goal as much possible. On the field you will notice markers which gives you turbo energy to help you navigate the field much faster than usual and can help you destroy other players cars if you ram them right when using it. This game has a spot for about all players, your casual player can hop into this game and have a blast and its competitive scene will allow hardcore players to also have a blast as they try and win big in a tournament. The game mainly centers on a 5 minute game with sudden-death overtime if the score is tied at the end of the round. Rocket League also has the “Rocket Pass” which is like a battle pass that allows you to unlock certain things as you level up and keeps you wanting to grind out the levels as fast as you can.

Overall I would have to say this family-friendly game was a great experience and something I will keep playing going forward for some time to come. I really don’t know how I missed this game but so happy that Xbox Game Pass gave me the opportunity to give this treasure a real shot. Rocket League is a breath of fresh air in modern gaming and took me back to how gaming used to feel in the past for me just having a great relaxing time with my friends a decade ago. Because of everything this game has going for it I rate this game my first 10/10! This game is true perfection and a must play on Xbox Game Pass.
